Bucharest, May 29, 2025 — AFIN IFN SA, the first non-banking financial institution in Romania dedicated exclusively to the social economy sector, has announced the signing of a new €250,000 loan agreement with Belgian impact investment fund ImpaktEU. This investment marks an important step in strengthening AFIN’s ability to support the development of social and environmental impact organizations in Romania.

Financing to Expand Access to Ethical Lending

The funding obtained from ImpaktEU will be used to expand AFIN’s loan portfolio, targeting social enterprises, NGOs, and other economic operators with a social or environmental mission. These resources will support:

    • access to working capital for day-to-day operations,
    • investment in equipment and infrastructure,
    • organizational and professional capacity building for beneficiaries.

Through these interventions, AFIN directly contributes to job creation, the development of community-impact products and services, and the financial sustainability of Romania’s social economy sector.

"This financing is a significant step in our mission to support social enterprises in Romania. With ImpaktEU’s support, we will be able to provide more tailored financial solutions that meet the specific needs of these organizations, thus contributing to a more equitable and inclusive society," said Felicia Relenschi, General Manager of AFIN IFN SA.

A European Collaboration for Sustainable Impact

ImpaktEU, an impact investment fund launched in 2022 by Funds for Good and Inpulse Investment Manager, supports initiatives that promote social inclusion, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development across Europe. The investment in AFIN is part of the fund’s strategy to strengthen financial ecosystems that serve the social economy.

"We are excited to collaborate with AFIN IFN SA in their efforts to support the social economy in Romania. This investment aligns perfectly with our mission to promote social inclusion and sustainable development in Europe," stated Bruno Dunkel, CEO of ImpaktEU.
